Henrique Bellini to be awarded Young Airport Professional of the Year at the end of the month in Colombia

Salvador Bahia Airport's Engineer Henrique Bellini, 28, was nominated “2019 Young Airport Professional” by the Airports Council International - Latin America and Caribbean (ACI-LAC). He will receive the award in Bogota, Colombia, during the Council's annual conference, which takes place from October 21st to 23rd.

This important award is disputed by professionals up to 35 years old from signatory airports and is awarded to the author of the best article of relevance to the international airport community. In the winning article, Henrique addresses a present-day theme with an innovative focus, aiming to use technology and information solutions in order to increase operational efficiency and improve the passenger experience at airports with capacity constraints at the passenger inspection channels.

According to Javier Martinez, director of ACI-LAC (Airports Council International - Latin America and Caribbean), the article submitted by Henrique Bellini has "brought an innovative perspective by maximizing infrastructure capacity at the region's airports." The text was supervised by Salvador Bahia Airport's technical director, Yann Le Bihan.

The young civil engineer is at the forefront of some major projects in Salvador Bahia Airport's expansion works, such as the implementation of the new luggage inspection and the activation of the new apron area. A member of the team since May 2018, Henrique was thrilled with the announcement of the award. "This recognition is a unique opportunity given the meaningful recognition by a reference organization in the aviation world," says the engineer.

About the organization

ACI-LAC (Airports Council International - Latin America and Caribbean) is the only worldwide association of airport operators and represents more than 270 airports in 34 countries and territories. The association's member airports represent 95% of commercial air traffic in Latin America and the Caribbean, receiving more than 570 million passengers, 5.4 million tons of cargo and more than 9 million aircrafts traffic each year.

The Salvador Bahia Airport’s works financing agreement with Banco do Nordeste (BNB) was awarded with an international prize for the second time this year. The “Airport Financing of the year” was granted last night (3) in New York by Latin Finance, an international publication specialized in the financial markets and economies of Latin America and the Caribbean. Last March, Salvador Bahia Airport had been chosen “Latin American Airport deal of the year” by IJGlobal Magazine.

"In a year in which we had other major financings, including in the airport sector, it is an honor to have received this recognition from a jury composed of major players in the project finance market. The award is further evidence of our successful entry into the Brazilian market and the expertise of VINCI Airports in airport construction and development”, said Lorenzo, Salvador Bahia Airport Financial Director.

The deal

The contract between VINCI Airports and Banco do Nordeste (BNB) for the financing of BRL 516 million was signed in June 2018. The term is 20 years. This was the first full unsecured (non-recourse type) full financing of the Brazilian airport industry.  BNP Paribas was the financial advisor on the deal and Mattos Filho the legal advisor.

The Concessionaire Salvador Bahia Airport joined VINCI Airport’s network in 2017 and took over the operations in 2018 after completing the transition process under the public authorities’ leadership. Since then, the plan for the modernization and expansion works at Salvador Bahia Airport has been moving forward successfully.

The project involves a number of interventions such as expansion of 20,000 m² built area, construction of a new pier with 6 boarding bridges, a new embarkation area, refurbishment of the refrigeration system, expansion of the aircraft yard, reform of the main and auxiliary runways, investments in sustainability, among others.
