Salvador Bahia Airport works financing is granted an international award

The financing of the first stage of Salvador Bahia Airport modernization and expansion works with Banco do Nordeste was awarded as Latin American Airport deal of the year by IJGlobal Magazine, an international publication of the infrastructure and energy market. The recognition was announced last night (14) in New York.

The contract between VINCI Airports and Banco do Nordeste (BNB) for the financing of BRL 516 million was signed in June 2018. The term is 20 years. This was the first full unsecured (non-recourse type) full financing of the Brazilian airport industry.  BNP Paribas was the financial advisor on the deal and Mattos Filho the legal advisor.

VINCI Airports became the concessionaire of Salvador Bahia Airport in 2017 and took over the operations in 2018 after completing the transition process under the public authorities’ leadership. Since then, the plan for the modernization and expansion works at Salvador Bahia Airport has been moving forward successfully, with a number of interventions such as expansion of the 20,000 m² built area, construction of a new pier with 6 boarding bridges, a new embarkation area, refurbishment of the refrigeration system, expansion of the aircraft yard, reform of the main and auxiliary runways, investments in sustainability, among others.

"In a year in which we had other major financings, including in the airport sector, it is an honor to have received this recognition from a jury composed of major players in the project finance market. The award is further evidence of our successful entry into the Brazilian market and the expertise of VINCI Airports in airport construction and development, "said Julio Ribas, Salvador Bahia Airport CEO.
